Elastic mind was created by Ona Kiser
Does anyone else have this experience? That sometimes when you are in a particular phase of practice the mind just seems to have a magnetic or elastic quality? I guess it's always like that in a way, but it's most noticeable when, for example, you are in a really deep equanimity or peacefulness. Like you can try to think of something that is irritating or exciting or disturbing, but the mind just sort of blobs back into the peacefulness? Or you might be in a really turbulent phase with a lot of mental jumbly movement, but if you try to think about peace or quiet, it just doesn't seem relevant, and the mind just goes magnetically back into the turbulence? Sometimes that quality of elastic-mind or magnetic-mind seems kind of overt, and I find it kind of funny.

Thoughts?

Absolutely! I've had that same thing happen. I have no idea why and it never was noticeable until I got into practicing deeply. I don't know if that's because it never happened before or I just never noticed it.

Yeah, I remember noticing it intermittently a year or so ago, but it's becoming more and more apparent. I'm thinking it probably is one of those things we just don't notice until we start to notice, and also it tends to be most noticeable at first at extremes (in the past I tended to only notice it after an opening, when in a sort of honeymoon bliss/equanimity period), but it probably is characteristic at all times and just stands out at the extremes. Who knows!

You're getting "calibrated."
